Okay, so we’re a little late in getting our year in review out. 😉 But weren’t there some great new releases last year? Some of our favorites were Iron Gold, Thunderhead, Arm of the Sphinx, Vengeful, and Children of Blood and Bone. Do you notice any in this list that you haven’t read yet? If so, click the links to read our reviews and see if you might want to check them out.

BOOK SERIES RECAPS FEATURED ON GOODREADS!

2018 was an exciting year for Book Series Recaps! Because of YOUR readership and loyalty, our little website caught the attention of an editor at Goodreads. If you don’t receive their YA newsletters, you might’ve missed it. So check out our interview with Goodreads’ Marie Pabelonio here.

Writing Update

Both of us are wrapping up the third drafts of our manuscripts. We thought this step would go a little faster since we weren’t tackling huge structural edits like we were in our second drafts. But the process of trying to perfect every chapter, every page, and even every sentence has been a long, tedious one. But we’re happy we’re getting close!

Click here for a synopsis and visualization of each of our projects…

What’s next after we finish draft 3? We’ll both read through each other’s manuscripts one more time and maybe send them out to a beta reader or two to get a fresh set of eyes on them. Then it will be time to make some big decisions.

Do we want to self-publish, or do we begin the search for an agent by drafting the dreaded query letter? Those two words are so intimidating! This one little letter might be the most important thing we write. And if we do decide to query, do we want to go the indie or traditional publishing route?

There is so much to consider that we decided to ask an expert, author Helen Scheuerer. If you’ve subscribed to the BSR newsletter for long, you know we’re big fans of Scheuerer’s debut fantasy series, The Oremere Chronicles. We checked in with Helen to ask about the writing and publishing process. Here’s what she had to say…

review spotlight - mortal engines

Mortal Engines by Philip Reeve

If you love dystopian you might want to pick up Mortal Engines. The movie came out in December, and since one of my all-time favorite things is to read a book and then watch the movie, I call that a huge bonus!

If you’re looking for something unique and really out there, this may be just the ticket.  Here’s the premise: In a dystopian future where living on the bare earth was impossible, cities became mobile — even the big cities. We’re talking London-size. These mountainous metropolises roam the earth and devour…read more
